keswick, england

We waited for the bus to Keswick and the man with the backpack told us where to get the best goulash and shared his adventures of saving sheep in the snowstorm.

I couldn't find any clouds in Texas but at least once a day I found tacos.

rooftop

I sit on the roof with my brother Jordan, and my cousins, Justin and Jeremiah.  Jeremiah is wearing his new yellow sneakers, and dangling from my ears are the elephant earrings I bought at the Melrose Trading Post earlier that day.  I have that warm contented feeling that comes from spending time with people you have known your entire existence, and I take the last sip of my beer as the California sun lazily disappears.

back from LA

I was in Los Angeles for a few days to visit my brother and sister-in-law.  We ate too much food, and then talked about eating more food until it was time to eat more food.  They complained about the heat wave and I laughed at them and reveled in the near-perfect weather.  My brother and I spent the mornings watching music documentaries, and the afternoons driving around the city listening to Black Sabbath.  I ate the best burrito I have ever had.

lazy afternoons

Sunday we had a party at Tim's, drinking keg beer and playing badminton and staying up until 4 in the morning being silly.  Monday we slept in, then enjoyed homemade egg sandwiches before  heading to Sunset Lake in Harrisville for a swim (and fun on the swings!)  Erin and I went on a little walk exploring the pretty town lined with vine-covered brick houses and old mill buildings; eventually meandering to meet Dillon, Joel and Tim at the general store.  The boys had cucumber sodas waiting for us, which were strangely refreshing...

that summer I went to vermont

A couple summers ago I spent a week in a house on Lake Champlain- biking (tandem!), swimming, sailing, exploring with my family and a few best friends.  Looking back I can almost smell the wildflowers and taste the humidity of those peaceful August days.

el sur grande

My laptop is on the fritz and has been sent to the doctor, so blogging is on a minor hold for the time being.  I did however, find a few film photographs from my trip to Big Sur back in the fall of 2006(?) and thought I'd share them.  The West Coast is beautiful, and I miss it.  That's why I'm more than a little excited to announce that I purchased my plane ticket to Los Angeles in July.  I want to feel the warm California sun on my face, I want to see my brother and sister-in-law and cousins and friends, and I want to eat at Umami Burger.

antiquing in Northampton

The week before Christmas, my mom, little sister and I went to Northampton, Mass for last minute gifts and antiquing.  Northampton has a lot of beautiful antique shops down by where Bridge and Market St meet.  My sister found a funny collection of cat stories, my mom bought an elegant fur coat, and I just waltzed around in a mink stole and silly hats and posed in front of old, embellished mirrors.  I giggled at two eccentric ladies who argued and fussed and gossiped as they rummaged through their antiques.  Sometimes I aspire to be an old, batty shopkeeper like them, spending my days surrounded by idyllic reminders of the past.

sunny afternoon

I'm wearing: Target dress o thrifted sweater and purse o borrowed boots.  All photos by Susie except for the last.

One of my favorite afternoons from my trip to Orlando was spent rummaging through records and vintage clothing with my sister, Susie.  We found a vinyl shop and Suse bided her time by sneaking photos of me while I lost track of time in the seemingly endless LPs.  My sister finally convinced me to move on, but not before I picked up a couple Talking Heads records and left my promise that I'd return.  We walked across the street to a trendy cafe where Susie and I bought a refreshing mint iced tea and a mint coffee, respectively.  There was a vintage clothing store a few doors down that looked promising, but it ended up being a disappointment.  Upon my entering the store the owner briskly stated that I was only allowed to come in because I had a lid on my drink, which immediately made me want to pour my half-full* cup of peppermint tea all over her over-priced Cosby sweaters.  I tried to brush off her derogatory comment but she critically eyed my every movement, all the time talking on her cell phone!!  It was obnoxious, so I left, and headed to a real gem, Dechoes Resale Emporium, where the employees are super friendly and actually offer you a beverage when you walk in.  Needless to say, I tried on a million things, but I limited myself to buying a flouncy purple dress and a cardigan with golf carts and palm trees embroidered onto it.  (How Florida can you get?)

scenes from new york no.1 [the high line]

On our first day in New York, Erin and I woke up early and headed over to The High Line- an elevated park built on an old freight train line running along the West Side of Manhattan.  I have heard about this park for years and have seen it from afar, but never bothered to actually visit before Wednesday.  The sun was shining and it was a glorious + peaceful morning for some snapshots along the reinvented rail trail.

music city roundup

So I realize I've been dragging out this Nashville thing, but it's actually good that I have so many photos to share with you, or I really wouldn't have anything to post.  It's been one of those weeks that seem like an eternity, and I haven't had a second to plan or take photos for blog posts!  Hopefully life will chill out a bit more next week.

Enough about that, here's a roundup of my trip to Tennessee, and some of the absolute highlights from my trip.  Of course the Andy Warhol exhibit at the Frist was a highlight, but alas, no photography allowed there so you'll just have to see that for yourself!

Trying to decide what to eat at the Farmers Market
View from Bicentennial Park
Around Germantown and a visit to Monell's.
Definite trip highlight!  Lovely evening of cocktails and conversation with Rachel of Mousevox Vintage.
Gourmet popsicles at Las Paletas.  I had banana-chocolate!
Mom-made Mojitos back at the apartment.  My favorite!
Night view from my bedroom.
Looking at these pictures makes me want to go back there so bad!  I really had an awesome time and will definitely be traveling back again someday.  Have you guys been on any memorable trips this summer?

Happy Friday lovebugs!

visiting 12 south

thrifted headscarf o thrifted top o h&m shorts o thrifted purse o my sister's boots o antique skeleton key from France

I still have lots of photos from Nashville, but I thought I'd break to share one of the outfits I put together for the blistering heat.  I tried wearing my scarf as a turban for the first time using this great tutorial from Strawberry Moth.  I think I'm hooked!

Rachel recommended I check out the 12 South neighborhood, and I was so glad I did!  It is a really neat part of the city, and has a few cool vintage shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafés.  There was also an awesome music store with the nicest staff.  They let Dad and I play their fancy guitars, and my sister and I jammed on the shiny red keyboards.  I always try to find a piano to play when I'm on vacation, because otherwise I miss it too much!
